Ruhest du auch.
Sunset and evening star,
And one clear call for me!
And may there be no moaning of the bar,
When I put out to sea,
But such a tide as moving seems asleep,
Too full for sound and foam,
When that which drew from out the boundless deep
Turns again home.
Twilight and evening bell,
And after that the dark!
And may there be no sadness of farewell,
When I embark;
For tho' from out our bourne of Time and Place
The flood may bear me far,
I hope to see my Pilot face to face
When I have crost the bar.
-Alfred Tennyson
So I haven't been on here in a long time because I have nothing of virtue to say. However, I felt the need to note the day. Rest peacefully, Ed McMahon, Farrah Fawcett, Michael Jackson. Each brought the world joy, laughs, and music, and that is why people remember them and care. Hopefully they are aware of that wherever they are, meeting the Pilot in some well-lit darkness.

OneWord: Remember
"Remember"
It was difficult to think that far back, but it was necessary.
"Remember", the robotic voice announced again.
He clenched his teeth, balling his fists as he struggled to think in the cold of the room.
"I can't!" His voice was tense, but the robotic voice simply repeated itself.
He leaned forward, thumping his forehead against the table, whispering quietly to himself, "I don't want to..."

As I was walking up the stair,
I met a man who wasn't there.
He wasn't there again today,
I wish, I wish he'd stay away.

He wasn't there again today,
I wish, I wish he'd stay away.

Story on my mind...
Her breaths came ragged as she tore through the bushes that lined a walking path, her eyes blurred from the cold and fear but she kept running. It was not so late that the gray of dusk had turned to night but the shadows played tricks on her and she ran ever faster trying to race the wind which stirred leaves in her wake.
From far away she could hear the slobbering growls, heavy clawed steps tearing the sod from the earth in great strides and it only made her run harder. She could feel her muscles tearing and knew to stop would be to die for once she stopped there would be no strength left in her to fight and the old blade strapped to her calf would be useless.
As she leapt over the edge of a sandbox and almost skid in the sand she was reminded of Phidippides who had run to Athens to give his people a chance of surviving, her own run was not so dissimilar but she had a sinking feeling it would end the same.
To keep her mind from the howls that rose behind her echoing against the tops of the trees she ran over the address in her mind again... 4927 Edelwood... 4927 Edelwood... The burning in her chest seemed to pulse, beating harshly with her heart, the long coat whipping around her thighs. If she could just make it to Edelwood, the park ran right against the street.
Through the railings of the bridge ahead she could see the street lamps and it renewed her vigor to run, she didn't even try the bridge which had a dew-slicked incline but instead cleared the small creek it bridged in a few strides. In her mind she could hear the wet breathing of the beasts behind her, tracking her across the park with ease.
Bursting onto the street she cried out, stopping a moment as a cramp took her leg. The sound rallied the beasts and she heard the bloodlust in their howls. Limping slightly she forced herself to run along the sidewalk, ignoring the traffic light as she avoided the single car on the road. Ahead she could see the steeple and picked up her pace despite the pain.
As she rounded the side of a Dunkin Donuts she saw the wrought iron fence which surrounded the grounds. Running its length she found the gates. Locked.
Collapsing she sobbed, "OPEN THE GATES!" Her voice was a hoarse yell but surprisingly sweet, with clenched fists she pulled and pushed against the gates held tight by new steel chain and a padlock. Her eyes traveled upward, at least 8 feet high with no hope of climbing them.
"PLEASE... OPEN THE GATES! SOMEONE!!" the howls were closer now and she leaned her head against the bars, drawing ragged breaths which burned through her lungs.
A moment later she could hear the claws digging trenches in the sidewalk as several of the beasts followed her scent across the streets. Her eyes rested on the deep green of the grass and spoke, "I found the church... let these be holy grounds." Reaching into her pocket she clenched the small silver box in her hands, the ornate scrolling transferring to the skin of her palms.
The growls came from around the corner, large claws screaming against the concrete as they launched themselves forward. Thrusting her hands through the bars she deposited the box on the grounds and turned to face them, the first's eyes landed on the box and it howled, the others joining soon as they inched forward. At least they would eat, even if they would not return with their bounty.
